Terms of service
The deal
Using Lumiere means agreeing to this. It is short on purpose.

Who may use Lumiere
Accounts are for current and former students of the listed schools, registered with your own university email address. You must be at least 16 years old.
One account per person. Do not share your password. Tell us if you think somebody else has got into your account, and we will help you lock it down.
If you leave your school, your account and published work stay. Your portfolio link is meant to outlive your student card.
Your work is yours
You keep full copyright in everything you upload. We claim no ownership of it, ever.
By publishing, you give us permission to store your work and show it on the site, and to show a thumbnail of it in listings, search results and link previews. That permission is non-exclusive, worldwide and free of charge, it exists purely so the gallery can display your work, and it ends when you delete the project.
We will not sell your work, license it to anybody else, or use it in paid advertising without asking you first.
What you promise
- The work is yours, or you worked on it as part of the team you credit.
- You have the right to publish it, including anything your school, a client or a collaborator has a say in.
- It does not infringe anyone else's copyright.
- It follows the publishing guidelines.
- The details you give us, including your name and your school email, are true.
Read the publishing guidelines. They are part of this agreement.
What you must not do
- Upload somebody else's project, or renders and images you did not make and have no right to publish.
- Post anything hateful, harassing, threatening or sexually explicit, or anything that exposes a private person's details.
- Break into, overload, scrape or probe the site, or try to reach data that is not yours.
- Use the site to advertise, to send spam, or to sell anything.
- Impersonate another student, a tutor, or a school.
What we may do
- Remove work that breaks the guidelines or the law, or that somebody credibly claims is theirs.
- Suspend or close accounts used to harass people, spam, or attack the site. Where it is fair to do so we will tell you why and give you a chance to reply.
- Change these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell account holders before it takes effect.
- Stop running the site. If that ever happens we will give at least 30 days' notice and a way to download everything you uploaded.
You can close your account whenever you like, for any reason or none. Deleting your account removes your profile and the projects you published.
If someone copies your work
Email us and we will take the copy down while we look into it. To move quickly, include:
- A link to the project on Lumiere.
- What part of it is yours.
- Something that shows it is yours: source files with timestamps, an earlier publication, a tutor who can confirm it.
- How to reach you.
The same route works the other way. If we take something of yours down and you believe we got it wrong, reply and tell us why, and a person will read it.
The boring but necessary part
The site is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it running and your files safe, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable or never lose data. Keep your own copies of your work. Nothing here is a substitute for your own backup.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses arising from using the site, such as lost marks, lost opportunities or lost income. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. If you are a consumer, your legal rights are unaffected by any of this.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of Ontario, Canada, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living somewhere else, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer law where you live, and may bring a claim in your local courts.
If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
Contact
You can reach us about these terms, a takedown request, or anything else, and a person will read it.
How we handle your information is a separate matter, set out in the privacy policy.
